Charles E. Maurer, Jr.

Director

Charles Maurer was elected Supreme Secretary of the Knights of Columbus in August 2011.  He had been appointed to an unexpired term on the Board of Directors in November 2000 and elected to the position in August 2001. He was elected Assistant Supreme Treasurer in August 2010, moving up to Supreme Treasurer that September. He joined the Board of Directors of the American Fraternal Alliance in August 2011.

Maurer is the retired owner of Philip Birck, Inc., and Maurer Industrial, a five-generation retail and commercial/industrial hardware business in his hometown of Richmond, Ind. Two sons and a daughter continue to run the business.

Maurer has served as a member of the council of St. Andrew Church, the Main Street Association, Downtown Merchants’ Association and YMCA in Richmond.  He joined the Knights of Columbus Council 580 at the age of 18 and served many positions in his local council and state district. He is past president of the Board of Trustees of Gibault School in Terre Haute, originally founded as a school for troubled boys by the Knights in 1321. Today, Gibault, Inc. offers life-changing opportunities for children and adults.

Charles and his wife, Tonya, are the parents of four sons, one daughter and nine grandchildren.  He is the recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, the highest service award presented by the governor of the State of Indiana.
