Bright spots on the fraternal horizon…
Some very positive developments have occurred over the past few weeks. Here’s a quick summary of some bright spots on the fraternal horizon…
- Alliance Annual Meeting – Well, that was a doozy! One-of-a-kind keynoters; thought-provoking workshops; a panel of young professionals from member societies sharing their insights on how to shake-up (wake up?) the system. The 2017 Annual Meeting was one of the highest rated educational programs ever conducted by the Alliance. Much more on the event – including ways to make the 2018 meeting even better – in a future blog.
- Cynthia Maleski to receive papal award – First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (FCSLA) President Cynthia Maleski has been named a Pope Francis Charity and Leadership Award winner. She and six other notable Catholic leaders from around the world will receive their awards on October 21 in Washington, DC. Cynthia is being honored for her lifetime of service to the Catholic Church and human rights. Many of you know her as the progressive leader of FCSLA and the former Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner. But take a look at this synopsis of her service work and you’ll understand why she’s being honored by Pope Francis. Please join me in congratulating Cynthia on this incredible achievement!
- KBRA Report on fraternals – KBRA, the upstart new rating agency, released a report earlier this month highlighting the key role that fraternals play in the life insurance industry and the nation’s social fabric. Here it is, if you haven’t already seen it.
- Hurricane relief efforts – It hasn’t taken long for the news media to move on to other topics, but the need for long-term relief from the pair of hurricanes that hit Texas and Florida is still very real. As noted in a previous post, fraternals are rising to the occasion. Watch for an Alliance survey to more fully document each member society’s hurricane relief efforts as we try to compile accurate data on the scope and effectiveness of the fraternal response so that we can communicate this information to public policymakers as the tax reform debate begins in earnest this month.
