November 20, 2017At the end of the day, giving is what distinguishes fraternals from our commercial insurance colleagues. The impact of our giving spreads in concentric circles: first to our members; then to the communities in which they live and work; and finally, to the nation and world. Fraternals give of themselves to help those who need it every day. But in times of crisis, the need – and the fraternal response – is greater than ever. Over the past few months, the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Mexico have been ravaged by storms and earthquakes. Fraternals – quickly, quietly and without fanfare – mobilized to channel financial aid, in-kind services, and on-the-ground volunteers to those who needed it most. The Alliance has been tracking members’ disaster relief efforts and the results are impressive. Click here to see the results so far. Today, the Alliance used its Twitter account to send the following information to Members of Congress. The intent was not to blow our own horn – heaven knows there’s enough grandstanding going on these days – but rather to demonstrate to policymakers the incredible power of fraternals and the value of the tax exemption that allows us to fulfill our unique financial and social service mission. We hope you will share this information with your employees, board members, local chapter leaders, and rank-and-file members so that they will better understand that they are part of a movement that makes the world just a little bit better. Thanks for giving.
