Royal Neighbors named a finalist for national community service award
February 24, 2014Royal Neighbors of America’s (RNA) “Baskets of Hope” project is one of five finalists for USA WEEKEND magazine’s Make A Difference Day All-Star Award – and each of us can help RNA secure this honor by voting for them today and everyday (just like Chicago elections!) from now until March 4. RNA’s “Baskets of Hope” program earned the spot in the finals thanks to the efforts of its chapters across the country. As their 2013 Make A Difference Day project, RNA chapters distributed nearly 1,500 baskets filled with personal and inspirational items to women who were transitioning to a better life. The program ties in perfectly with the society’s common bond and social mission. Royal Neighbors is one of the largest women-led life insurance organizations in the nation, and its philanthropic efforts are dedicated to changing women’s lives. Projects like “Baskets of Hope” provide vivid testimony to the ability of individual fraternals and their networks of local volunteers to improve the lives of individuals and communities in a caring, compassionate and cost-effective manner. Royal Neighbors has been participating in Make A Difference Day for 17 years and won a national award from USA WEEKEND magazine in in 2007. In addition to national recognition for the organization (and, by extension, the fraternal system), this year’s award comes with a $10,000 grant from the Gannett Foundation. RNA would use the funds to empower more women and their families. Now the most important part of this post: I encourage every one of you reading this to go to makeadifferenceday.com/vote-now and vote for the Royal Neighbors project once a day through March 4. One voter per day per ISP address is allowed so be sure to use your personal email as well. We’ll let you know the results of the voting in the next week or two. Let’s all join hands to make Royal Neighbors – and fraternals – the big winner in this contest!
