The Importance of Being Involved - by Jonathan Gadbois

September 9, 2013
After Saturday morning's workshops concluded, Alliance President and CEO Joe Annotti took the stage and addressed the group.  He recapped highlights and developments over the past year, as well as reminded all of us that although we have done great things, there is always the need to do more to further fraternal advocacy.  Tax reform is here to stay, so we must always be vigilant in reporting our volunteer activities to both the public and legislators alike. Joe A Speaking President Annotti then outlined some of the keys to operating a successful fraternal benefit society in the modern world.  He also stressed how essential it is to continue to change with the times to grow our memberships younger and involve youth in our fraternal lodges' volunteer activities. After sharing an anecdote about going for a run through his neighborhood in the morning and noticing that no one under the age of 35 had a newspaper in their driveway, Annotti stated, "we have to stop just selling newspapers," meaning that just as printed newspapers have fallen out of favor with the younger generation, the old ways of growing our memberships might need to be reviewed and updated. It's clear that although triumphs have been achieved, our work spreading the message of fraternalism is far from over.  I truly believe that under President Annotti's competent leadership, the fraternal future is a bright one. (And, no, he didn't put me up to this!)
