Boris Music made big news when he broke ground in April of 2013 on his multi-million dollar construction project that would transform the corner of Lorain and W. 28th into a shiny new brewery, restaurant, and retail shop. Music and his specialty foods shop Hansa Import House have been fixtures in the Ohio City neighborhood for 40 years, longer even than Great Lakes Brewing. So it was welcome news when he announced his plans to construct a 15-barrel brewery and restaurant while improving his long-running specialty foods shop. That shop, long popular with Eastern European immigrants, carries a huge inventory of imported cheeses, meats, bread, and beers. Now, Boris' dream has become a reality. Inspired by the Eastern European heritage of Cleveland, we aimed to create a style that of BBQ Clevelanders can call their own by incorporating Bertman’s Ballpark Mustard into the barbecue sauce and smoking meat over local fruitwood.

The space’s arched ceilings, industrial lighting and exposed brick are reminiscent of Cleveland landmark West Side Market, evoking the feeling of a rustic smokehouse with a laid back vibe. The deep green bar is reminiscent of a Coleman cooler, and a large neon sign reading “EAT MORE MEAT” is a focal point of the bi-level restaurant. Friends can kick back at communal picnic tables and feast on brisket, kielbasa, pork ribs, and a variety of eastern European inspired sides, coupled with locally made Cleveland kraut and pickles.

We're a small and independently owned business run by regular people. Shaun brews a mix of traditional and experimental beers, manages social media, and fixes the plumbing. His wife, JoLyn, runs operations, HR, and accounting and keeps everything by the book. Chef James creates a farm fresh and seasonal menu with an intensely creative eye that punches well above regular "brewery" food. They couldn't do it without a fantastic staff highlighted by GM Michael and Brewer Erik.
